As Businesses start to look at what the new business environment will look like for them. It will come as no surprise that the majority of business owners and strategic decision makers were forced into crisis management mode, when they were told back in March by UK Government to send employees home to work where it was possible. However, you might be surprised to learn that the majority of them did not have in place suitable agile working technologies in order to enable them to thrive over the last couple of months and this was achieved in many cases by the use of communications string and sticky backed plastic around current technologies. Either by forwarding current phone system desk phones to divert to mobile phones (their bills will be huge) and/or using the plethora of free video conferencing services that are available. Plus, don’t be surprised to learn how many are still using consumer tools such as FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp too due to lack of technology market knowledge.

Now that we are looking to emerge from the various European social lockdowns, businesses are starting to consider what their communication and collaboration technology services need to look like for if in the event this happens again. In addition, with many businesses having furloughed staff who might have been responsible for administrative task such as market research around new suppliers and technologies, businesses are definitely in need of help. All of this compounded by the likelihood that they need to be confident that they have in place for the next 24-26 months the most efficient, scaleable and cost effective suppliers, when considering the economic outlook.

On the upside, business leaders have opportunity right now to consider what their longer-term strategy to securely meet the needs of a work anywhere workforce should look like. As people are emerging from this event, many will realise that their people have never been so productive. Therefore, whilst this pandemic will pass, we are never going back to the way it was!
